Dear International President:

Each year since 1981, the ASSH has selected one of its young members as the Sterling Bunnell Traveling Fellow. This fellow is provided with funds from the ASSH to travel to internationally to learn more about an area of interest in hand surgery. The Bunnell Traveling Fellowship is one of the highest honors the ASSH can bestow on a member. We are grateful for the hospitality that has been extended to our fellows as they have explored the world of hand surgery.

In recent years the ASSH has welcomed young fellows traveling to the US with the support of their national hand societies. If your society has a similar traveling fellowship program, our Bunnell Fellowship Committee would be glad to work with your society’s fellow to schedule visits to selected hand surgery centers while he or she is in our country in the weeks following the Annual Meeting.

In support of overseas visiting fellows, the ASSH will provide a complimentary registration to the ASSH Annual Meeting for one fellow from each society who is on an academic level equivalent to our Bunnell fellow. Before the complimentary registration is issued, the ASSH leadership will review the fellowship form. Unfortunately, no additional financial assistance will be offered to this fellow by the ASSH in support of travel, housing or other expenses.

Although Dr. Wolfe and the Traveling Fellowship Committee will make every effort to accommodate individual overseas traveling fellow venue choices, some flexibility of schedules may be required if a large number of fellows wish to arrive at a center simultaneously. This occasionally occurs when many overseas fellows combine visits to US hand surgery centers with the Annual ASSH meeting, a very busy time for preparations by the ASSH members.

If your society would like to participate in this program, please complete the attached form detailing your fellowship and selection procedures to Jeanne Bloesch ? Membership Coordinator by May 1, 2005.

If, upon review, we determine your fellow qualifies for the complimentary Annual Meeting registration, we will notify you and work with your fellow on itinerary planning.

The 2005 ASSH Annual Meeting will be held September 22-24, 2005, in San Antonio, TX. So that we can plan itineraries properly, we request that you contact us no later than May 1, 2005 if you would like to send a fellow to this year’s meeting under our international traveling fellowship program.
